Midland Innovation and Technology Charter School Certified as "High Quality" by the State Organization

Officials for the Midland Innovation and Technology Charter School (MITCS) announced it was formally recognized as a "high-quality charter school" on Oct. 9.

The distinction, which is awarded by the Pennsylvania Coalition of Public Charter Schools (PCPCS), is given to public charters that demonstrate an alignment with a set of "40 National Standards." These include standards that measure the school's benchmarks in governance, operations, financial status, academics, leadership and school culture.

We reflect on where we’ve come in a short period of time with pride, “said Terrence Smith, chief executive officer at MITCS. “We also look ahead with great anticipation for growth and our future.”

School administrators say they are proud of the high-quality charter school distinction, especially with the PCPCS criteria serving as an acknowledgment of the program's instructions system. The classification means that the charter provides a rigorous curriculum, provides positive outcomes for students and remains student-focused through its programs.

“We are building a system that is strategically designed to make the words all students mean ALL students by differentiating instruction to align with the varying rates that students master learning targets,” said David Krakoff, principal at MITCS. “Everyone learns at a different pace, so teaching needs to account for that. Also, we are committed to guiding students past levels marked by a test by helping students to create real-world products and solve real-world problems. Project-based learning brings content to life and makes the work in our classrooms meaningful.”
