Originally to be named Buchanan Elementary School, the Lancaster Township facility now bears the name of Rita Smith-Wade-El, the late Millersville University professor and advocate for equity in education. Among the speakers was her son Ismail Smith-Wade-El, president of Lancaster City Council, and Damaris Rau, district superintendent.
